Author Recommended Posts lets you well search and choose specific posts pages and custom post types you want to associate to post or page.
Filter which content is searchable and which post types to output on..
This plugin is free to use and is actively supported by the author but will be observeed for serious bugs that will need correcting...
Upload author-recommended-posts to the wp-content plugins directory.
Activate the plugin through the Plugins in WordPress.
Go to post page or custom post type and choose your recommended posts...
Just include where XXX is ID of the post or you can leave it out if you include it in the loop. i.e...

Added 2 new actions author recommended posts before related and author recommended posts after related that can be hooked from for outputting custom content not after or when each related entry..
