This plugin replaces the regular post author meta box on the edit post screen with custom box.

Upload avatars-meta-box to the wp-content plugins directory..
Activate the plugin through 'Plugins in WordPress..
This plugin will work with any post type that adds support for the author feature.
The potential authors the faster the page is going to load because it has to load each of avatar images...
In WordPress version 4.4 new feature was established that allows users to get the user roles and thus the exact users that have license to edit post.
So if you're seeing application for many post types in 4.4 it's you're only seeing the author number for the first time.....
