Note Emoticons will still work and emoji's will still work in browsers which have built in support for them.
This plugin only removes the additional code bloat used to add support for emoji's in older browsers...
Upload the complete 'disable-emojis folder to the wp-content plugins directory OR install from the installer.
Activate the plugin through 'Plugins in WordPress.

I also took look at the source code and it looks best just the not maximum required to do what it says..
I have read support thread where author says it is as intended I just have to go to wp-admin options-writing. php and disable Convert emoticons name - and -P to software on display the thing is your wp 4.9.1 doesn't have this setting there..
That's WAY too much moves for person who has installed and used to trust. Disable Emojis. plugin.
