Genesis Featured Post widget is great, except you have the option to include all categories or category.
Your featured post widgets should show off the posts that are geared towards the audience you attracting to your site..
You can feature the introductory post, and hide the rest...
Add Genesis Featured Posts Exclude Category to widget area..
For the Exclude option, select the category that you wish to exclude...
The plugin adds widget, which can be found under Appearance > Widgets.

The widget really works if you select All Categories from the Categories select in the widget, and then select category to exclude from the Exclude select in the widget..
