When you want to add user to page on your network you've got beautiful cool plugins for that as network admin.
If they decide to auto-add then time logged in user visits site they will be magically added to that site.
If they decide to use 'Join This Site button then they can individualize the text for users.
When you have registration turned on site can chose to use 'Per Site Registration which will allow them to create page on site just for registrations and signups.
Once that application is found new dropdown will that will let you select top-level page on site.
Then non-logged-in users will be deflected to the registration page and they may not be automatically added to I'm working on that.
This is basically WordPress signup page just done in short-code form so it default to use site's CSS wrong.
One user reported that with BP and JMM active they weren't getting any emails for registration so it's probably best to be used as 'Join if you're logged in thing versus 'Sign up this page one...
