Right now, Kindred posts will no longer be maintained after WordPress version 4.8 but I would love to see this plugin live on and improved upon.

You activate the plugin and drag widget into your theme to start recommending content.
If you want more control over the look and feel, you can modify the templates packaged with the plugin or call the PHP code itself..
Simply activate Kindred Posts then drag Kindred Posts widget into your theme and you are good to go...
Navigate to Appearance > Widgets to drag and drop Kindred Posts widget into your theme Navigate to Settings > Kindred Posts to set global settings and information about the plugin...
Test mode takes all Kindred Posts widgets offline and feeds some fake data into the engine so you can see how the plugin looks to your visitors.
While the plugin is in test mode, you can still collect data about how visitors accessing your website and use that data to make recommendations once Test Mode is disabled...
If you know HTML and some PHP, you can customize how the widget is displayed within your theme using custom-templates.php.
